Leopard sends Englishman abroad

Distributor Leopard International has concluded a string of international sales for its award-winning drama An Englishman In New York, into Latin American, Scandinavian and Australian broadcasters.

The 90-minute drama, which will receive its world TV premiere on UK terrestrial ITV, was produced by Leopardrama, a division of the distributor's parent Leopard Films.

It has been picked up by Brazilian cabsat broadcaster Globoset, Finnish national broadcaster YLE, Swedish cabsat broadcaster Viasat and Australian national broadcaster ABC.

The drama is a sequel to landmark 1975 film The Naked Civil Servant, and sees Golden Globe-winning actor John Hurt (The Elephant Man, Alien) reprise his role as flamboyant writer Quentin Crisp, setting off to New York on the journey of a lifetime.

The supporting cast includes Cynthia Nixon, Jonathan Tucker, Swoozie Kurtz and Denis O'Hare. Hurt has already picked up an award for his performance in the drama, landing the Best Acting Performance gong at the Teddy Awards at the Berlin Film Festival.

Each deal was brokered for Leopard International by head of sales Sarah Diggins. "The film has received a terrific reception at film festivals across the globe, and now millions of viewers will have the opportunity to enjoy the performances of the stellar cast, headed by John Hurt," she said.

An Englishman In New York was shot in August 2008 in London and New York, and was produced by Amanda Jenks (The Grey Man, Mysterious Creatures) and directed by Richard Laxton (Hancock & Joan, Grow Your Own). It was written by Brian Fillis (Curse of Steptoe), with James Burstall, Joey Attawia and Susie Field serving as exec producers.
